Louise Sauvage is boxed in as she waits for Canada’s Chantal Peticlerc (left) to go around her during the final of the T54 800m at the Sydney summer Paralympics. Peticlerc won with Sauvage second, reversing the result from the Olympic demonstration event on the same track less than a month before. The race was mired in controversy, however. The Australian team appealed for a re-run based on a collision early in the race that had disadvantaged another Australian, Holly Ladmore. The appeal was initially upheld, before the race was eventually awarded to Peticlerc. The Australian protest caused considerable a media stir, with most outlets siding with the Canadian. Sauvage had missed out in the 800m, but gained revenge by winning the 1500m and 5000m races.
