Kieran Modra throws the javelin at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Paralympics. Modra finished 4th, behind Australian bronze medalist Russell Short. Modra started in Athletics in Seoul in 1988 and competed in swimming and athletics in Barcelona and may have been the last Australian athlete to compete in two sports at the same Games. For the early Games, every Australian athlete had been expected to compete in more than one sport, to justify the expense of sending them to the Games. Modra made his greatest impact as a cyclist, once that sport was introduced in 1996.
