Australian Team official Alan Dean – who was officially a “Team Assistant” – stands in front of the Paralympic Cauldron, ready for work. Dean assisted the team coaches, tuned the athletes’ skis (waxing them with wax to suit the conditions and sharpening the edges), carried gear up and down the mountain and generally helped the team to run smoothly. The 1992 Australian winter team was the first to have the ‘luxury’ of a full complement of support staff.
