And Stan’s win made the Kosmalas the first ever married gold medalists

The Australian and Irish teams shake hands after a match in the pairs lawn bowls competition at the 1988 summer Paralympics. The Australian pair of Roy Fowler (second wheelchair athlete from the left) and Stan Kosmala (far right) won the gold medal in this event. Kosmala and his wife, Libby, became the first husband and wife members of the Australian Team to win gold medals at the same Games in separate sports. Libby won hers in shooting. Fowler won a total of 6 gold medals in a Paralympic career that stretched from 1964 to 1988.
