Australian athlete Tracey Freeman picked up a gold medal and world record in the women’s 1C 60m event at the 1976 summer Paralympics, then followed it up with another four medals in throws events, two of them gold. Freeman was Australia’s most successful competitor at the Games, with three gold and two silver medals. On return to Australia after the Games, she became the first athlete with a disability to win The Courier-Mail Sportswoman of the Year award.
