The Vancouver Games were the first Winter Paralympics in Canada, and the second Paralympic Games hosted by the nation (after the Toronto Summer Games in 1976). Over five hundred athletes competed in Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross-Country Skiing, Ice Sledge Hockey and Wheelchair Curling, and their exploits were covered on the free online channel, ParalympicSport.TV, as well as by television networks from Australia, Europe, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and host nation Canada. Over 230,000 tickets, 60,000 more than in Torino, were sold for events held at the two competition sites, in Vancouver and Whistler.
Unique/unusual:
At the Vancouver Winter Games, no two medals were designed the same, making every individual medal unique to each athlete.
