There was no doubt – the biggest rising star was Matt Cowdrey

Matt Cowdrey was just 15 at the Athens summer Paralympics and he was Australia’s most successful swimmer, with 3 gold medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze. Cowdrey was on his way to becoming Australia’s greatest ever Paralympic medal winner. Cowdrey’s work ethic and preparation were legendary. After each major event, he and his coach, Peter Bishop, would calculate how much faster he would need to swim at the next event and then train to achieve that.
