The 1988 team was the best funded to that time due to a national effort

The National Fundraising Committee’s report of the 1988 Paralympics Appeal proudly proclaimed that just over $1million in cash and up to the same amount again in in-kind donations had been raised to send away the 1988 Australian summer and winter Paralympic teams. The fundraising was overseen by the Australian Confederation of Sports for the Disabled, which took on the responsibility of sending the Australian Teams to the 1988 winter and summer Paralympics. The Appeal Committee was chaired by Marcus Einfeld and comprised a who’s who of leading Australian business and philanthropic figures. It was supported by sub-committees in each state and territory. It was the most successful fundraising effort for ‘away’ teams until it was exceeded in 2016.
