Tania Modra and Sarnya Parker on their way to gold

Australia was the leading Cycling nation at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. Although neither had started competitive cycling two years before the Games, sighted pilot Tania Modra and her teammate Sarnya Parker dominated the women’s tandem events, winning two gold medals. Modra and Parker were named the ‘Team of the Year” at the 2000 Paralympian of the Year Awards after the Games.
