The dais and ceremony were basic, but the achievement was still a Paralympic bronze medal for Australian swimmer Anne Currie (right), with Britta Siegers (centre, gold, Germany) and Cheryl Anderson (left, silver, USA). Her medal in the A1 100m freestyle at the 1984 Paralympic Games in New York made Currie Australia’s youngest Paralympic medallist, taking over from Elizabeth Edmondson (1964) and being eventually surpassed by Maddison Elliott in 2012.
