Relays are a traditional strength for Australian teams

In athletics and swimming, relays hold a special place for Australian athletes and this was the case again at the Athens summer Paralympics, with the Australian athletics team returning with four relay medals. In the T42-46 4x100m relay, for athletes with leg or arm amputations, the Australian team was at a disadvantage with three single leg amputees – Don Elgin, Neil Fuller and Stephen Wilson – and one runner from the faster class of arm amputees – Heath Francis, rather than two from each class. The team held on for a bronze medal behind the USA and France.
