Relay gold and the first Paralympic gold medal by an Indigenous Australian
Australian 4x100m relay team members celebrate their gold medal performance at the 1984 summer Paralympics in New York. Left to right: Peter Kirby, Brett Holcombe, Joe Egan and Vernon Ezzy. Kirby was from the south coast of New South Wales, the son of a Wiradjuri father and mother. With this victory, he became the first Indigenous Australian to win a Paralympic gold medal.
