Deahnnee McIntyre had an emergency appendectomy in Seoul four days before the start of competition and then won four medals at the Seoul Paralympics. The 1985 Young Australian of the Year won individual and relay track medals from 100 to 400m. Here, McIntyre celebrates the presentation of her gold medal for the women’s Class 5/6 200m. On the left is the silver medalist Juana Soto (one of Mexico’s greatest Paralympians) and the bronze medalist Jean Driscoll (USA), who won five gold medals in a career spanning four Games.
