Athletics head coach Chris Nunn talks to an athlete at the Sydney summer Paralympics. Appointed after the Atlanta Games, Nunn put together a tight team of coaches and administrators for the athletics program, with Scott Goodman (program administrator) and Jason Hellwig (athletics team manager) playing key support roles for the charismatic Nunn. Following the approach initiated for Atlanta, the athletics team followed a high performance model, with sport, not disability, at the centre of the program. The results spoke for themselves – the Australian athletics team won 35 gold medals, just one less than the entire USA Paralympic team.
