Back in the Village, the physical therapies team worked their miracles in the basement

By the 2004 summer Paralympics, the Australian team had established a system for providing physical therapy treatment to athletes. The larger sports had physiotherapists and massage therapists allocated to them and athletes from other sports were treated by pool therapists. While some treatment occurred at venues for larger sports, most treatment took place in the space allocated to the medical team – in the basement of the building used for team headquarters. The treatment tables and other equipment was all freighted from Australia and the clinic was overseen by Medical Coordinator Liz Cloughessy and Medical Director Syd Bourke.
