Ross Sutton won Australia’s first Paralympic gold medal, in the St Nicholas Round of Archery. Archery was scheduled as the opening event of the 1960 Games but was postponed to the second day due to rain, depriving Sutton of the opportunity of being the first ever Paralympic gold medalist, which honour went to an Italian fencer.
