Blocking is all about sitting reach in sitting volleyball

Albert Lee and Darren Gay are ready to block as the opposition setter makes a play and Brett Roworth looks on in the backcourt during this sitting volleyball match at the Sydney summer Paralympics. Because the cheeks of the buttocks may not leave the floor, net play is all about sitting reach and lateral speed across the net using hands, arms and trunk muscles. Australia, making its first Paralympic Games appearance, had its first ever international victory when it defeated the USA. The team, known as the ‘Crabs’, finished 11th of the 12 teams in the tournament.
